Understanding the Different Types of Headaches

Most people who have ever experienced a bad headache are subsequently aware of how miserable the pain can be. Even if the discomfort lasts for only a few minutes, sufferers will want to be able to develop a plan of action for ridding themselves of the pain. By becoming aware of the various types of headaches, individuals should be able to quickly determine the proper course of action.

Some pain arises simply through the process of contracting the common cold or flu. Whenever the body comes down with some sort of a head cold, it begins to produce excessive amounts of mucus in an attempt to catch the offending virus and drive it out of the affected area. When this fluid builds up within the sinus cavity, it exerts pressure elsewhere. Headaches are the usual result. Most men and women with colds simply choose to take some over-the-counter medication, rest as much as possible, and wait out the illness. There are specific medications, in fact, that are designed to attack and relieve sinus pressure.

People may also suffer from migraines, which are often mysterious in origin. Sometimes they come on suddenly, while other times they begin slowly and then rise to a thundering crescendo. People who suffer from regular migraines are often instructed to find a dark room in which to rest. A damp cloth may help as well. Though medical professionals suggest that altering one's diet may decrease the frequency of some migraines, everyone is ultimately different in how they will react.

Especially sensitive people may also experience headaches that arise whenever the barometric pressure suddenly rises or falls. Not everyone responds in a similar manner, but those who notice that they tend to get lightheaded or dizzy before strong cold fronts roll through can prepare themselves for their symptoms. An ibuprofen can often relieve this pain, though men and women may also want to consider abstaining from strenuous activity until their bodies become used to the new pressure.

Individuals may also develop head discomfort that arises from some sort of chemical dependency. Caffeine addiction is one of the most common. In today's busy world, many people have a daily cup of coffee before they head off to work. If they suddenly cut themselves off from their caffeine source, they may develop a bad headache shortly thereafter.

Ultimately, most types of headaches can be dealt with by being proactive. By obtaining a pain reliever before the discomfort becomes especially bad, the majority of people should be capable of weathering the storm. Chronic medical conditions, of course, should always be overseen by a reputable medical professional.

Are You Suffering From Different Types Of Sleeping Disorders?

If you feel lazy and lethargic during the day or feel like crashing after every couple of hours, it could be due to various reasons. First of all, exhaustion could be the reason behind it, for it is the most common outcome of today's lifestyle. So, the first step is to check and improve your way of living. You might think that working fifty hours a week, not spending time with family and then adding load to your mind would do you wonders. Well, in no case will that ever happen. The second most prominent reason is lack or uneven sleep. Here, you need to differentiate if it's a rare case or you are experiencing it on a regular basis. Answer the following questions and find out for yourself if you need to work on yourself or not.

Do you have difficulty concentrating? The first effect that comes up due to insufficient sleep is lack of concentration. Sleeping disorders like insomnia and delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS) could be responsible for it. If you have had difficulty concentrating since you were born then it is a whole different problem altogether. However, if it has just struck you then you need to keep a tab of your sleeping patterns.

Do you feel annoyed or lethargic during the day? This is the most common and widely spread outcome of irregular sleeping. When you are not able to get a good night's sleep then your body will feel sluggish during daytime. It needs to complete its resting time - whether during day or night. Due to this change of body clocks, you feel irritated and annoyed for you are not able to function properly and up to the mark.

Do you get told by others that you look drained? This part usually follows the above action. When you are unable to get a continuous sleep at night or unable to sleep at all, it takes a toll on your mind and body. The bad news is that it shows and others notice it too. It doesn't matter how much you try to cover it up but it always finds a way to surface itself. If you are being asked this a lot, then maybe you really do look tired and drained all the time. This can not be healthy. Therefore, give a good thought to your sleeping patterns. If you think you have been facing some problems regarding it, take corrective measures.

Do you find it hard to control your emotions? Sleep has a direct connection with your emotions and the way your body works. When your mind and body get enough rest they work and function in harmony. However, due to lack of sleep or irregular sleeping patterns, there is also an imbalance in the way we express ourselves. You may find yourself to be immensely upset about minute problems or see yourself cry your eyes out just because your favorite ice cream flavor is out of stock at the grocery store.

One needs to be attentive to towards his behavior and health. For negligence towards it can cover up many types of sleeping disorders.

Types of Seizures

When people think of someone having a seizure most would think of them dropping to the ground and their whole body convulsing. This is where people think wrong. There are several different types of seizures out there that people don't even know exist. Just because someone has epilepsy or seizures doesn't mean they fall to the ground every time they have one. I'm going to go through the different types of seizures so people may have a better understanding of them.

Seizures are placed into two different categories: generalized seizures and partial seizures.

Generalized: deal with electrical charge to both sides of the brain.

Partial: deal with electrical charge in one limited area of the brain or just one side of the brain.

Generalized Seizures

Let's start off by getting digging into generalized seizures. Some of the different types of seizures in this category are the type of how most people would think of a seizure.

Tonic-Clonic: known as the "grand mal" and the main seizure that people think of when they hear the word. The person will drop to the floor and almost every muscle stiffens while the person jerks. It usually lasts 1 - 3 minutes and the person can easily injure themself.
Absence: This is when a person blanks out anywhere from a couple seconds to 30 seconds and is unaware of their surroundings. They may blink their eyes repetitively and eyes may also roll up into the back of their head. People who have these types of seizures may have 30 - 60 a day.
Atonic: In this seizure people basically lose all muscle and strength and just drop to the ground. They stay conscious and aware during this type of seizure but doesn't mean it's not hard on their body.
Myoclonic: Most people would not even see these as seizures because they are so simple. They are very brief jerks of a muscle or a group of muscles. They only last for a second or two. It's like the sudden jerk you may feel that wakes you up when falling asleep.
Tonic: Causes a person's body to stiffen up and lasts for about 20 seconds. The person doesn't always fall but can lose balance when muscles stiffen or if they have multiple seizures in a row. This particular seizure often happens while a person is sleeping.
Clonic: Not often seen alone and only consists of repeated jerking. The jerking can't be stopped even if someone tries to restrain person having the seizure. This type of seizure usually only happens with the body stiffening part or "grand mal" as I talked about before.

Partial Seizures

Partial seizures from what I know can be extremely hard to diagnose because people do some weird things during these seizures.

Simple Partial: The one thing different about the simple partial are people remain alert and can recall the whole thing. But the way it is varies from person to person. It can be anything from a pain in ones stomach, a feeling of deja vu, or the sound of ringing. There is a whole list of things that happen to people who have these. They only last up to two minutes.
Complex Partial: If you see somebody have one of these you may think they are just crazy. People become unaware of everything going on around them. The person will normally repeat actions things like picking at clothing, making noises, swiping at the air etc. The person may also do embarrassing things such as start taking off their clothing or get themselves into a dangerous situation. They don't last very long but the person is normally confused from 15 minutes to hours afterwards and don't remember a thing.

The seizures I talked about are some of the most common seizures a person will see. I used to think there was only one type of seizure until I started having them. I hope everybody who read this will be more aware of people who have epilepsy or seizures.
