Treatments for Back and Other Acne

Acne is a common health condition that predominantly affects the skin, and skin with sebaceous (fat excreting) follicles. Acne inflicts itself mainly on the adolescents, due to an increase of testosterone in the body. There are two variations of acne; the inflammatory and non-inflammatory and it tend to attack the face, chest and back.

Acne usually starts during adolescence and if not treated will prove a bigger problem in adulthood: the age range for acne sufferers in usually between 17-27 years of age. One of the most difficult of acne outbreaks to treat is back acne. The skin on the back has lots of excreting glands and pores which in turn cause more cysts and spots.

Preventing back acne and other forms of the infliction is the easiest way to bring most acne under control. One way is adopt a healthy diet, although this will take some will power on the acne sufferer. A diet that includes drinking a fair amount of water, water will add moisture to the skin which helps control the amount of oil secreted by the skins pores. It will also prevent natural clogging of the pores.

Good hygiene practise is important in the control of acne. Cleaning pores and ridding the body of dead skin must be a regular undertaking.

Using antibacterial cleaning agents are recommended for the treatments of mild acne. Daily washing and exfoliation helps (this means stripping away the dead skin) by opening the pores, some of the acne producing bacteria can be removed. Lotions containing lactic acid alpha and hydroxyl acid will assist in the exfoliation and aid the unclogging of the pores in the skin. Wearing cotton clothes is advisable for those suffering from back acne. Avoid at all cost treatments that will cause irritation on the skin affected by back acne. Resists the temptation to scratch or pick the offending spots as this will severely aggravate the skin condition. Consult with a doctor regarding ant treatments you intend to use. Try to avoid using regular soaps and cleaners if possible.

Mild acne will respond well to daily skin care. It is possible to mix certain products when combatting acne, but make sure there is no skin irritation. Back acne can be treated with salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. The skin on the back is fairly thick and robust, so it will tolerate powerful remedies that would cause irritation to the faces softer skin.

It is important that you consult a doctor before embarking on any treatments for more severe forms of acne. The doctor will possible proscribe oral and topical treatments. The drug Accutane and antibiotics may be proscribed among others. A drug, tetracycline, has been successful in the past in calming the inflammation and reducing itchiness. It also keeps the lesions bacteria free, thereby halting the possibility of secondary infection.

For treatments of very severe forms of acne, the drug Accutane can play a major role. It aids the acne treatment by permanently reducing the skins production of oil, and reduces and shrinks the skins oil producing glands. However it as some side effects and is only used when all other treatments have been exhausted. It is a derivative of vitamin A, and is only applied for between 15-20 week periods
